AB 988 Update with Senator Padilla and Assemblymember Bauer-Kahan

U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) and California Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan (D-Orinda) will host a virtual event with the California Health and Human Services Agency and state mental health experts to celebrate the establishment of the new 9-8-8 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. With the recent signing of AB 988 (Bauer-Kahan), California will provide enhanced resources to the state to help combat its rising mental health crisis.

Did you know that the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program has a waiver in place to help borrowers who have worked in public service receive loan forgiveness? You need to apply for that program by October 31st to qualify! AB 988 Roundtable

The 9-8-8 hotline goes live in California on July 16th. This three digit number will connect Californians over the phone with trained crisis staff to help provide support during a mental health crisis. I am also working to expand 9-8-8 through my bill, AB 988. AB 988 is born out of the idea that people experiencing a mental health crisis are experiencing just that, a health crisis, and need trained mental healthcare professionals to respond in that situation.
