Defective Wood Preparation | Paul Sellers
Thinned shellac is the best sanding sealer, and it can be used under any wood finish you choose to apply. For this wood prep video, I thinned the dewaxed shellac by about 25% by adding methylated spirits.
Applying it all over the workpieces enables me to apply it with a brush and sand it 10 minutes later. This we call denibbing. Shellac will wick into all pores and wood surfaces, including worm runs, and solidify particles in place, ready for sanding.
Once sanded, the wood is ready for further applications of finish to be applied.
